Di West
Multi-award winning and highly collectable Queensland artist, Di West is well known for her endearing cow characters and quirky sense of humour. Di has a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Queensland University of Technology.
After living all her life in the heart of the city, Di has relocated to the lush countryside near Maleny in the hinterland of Queensland's Sunshine Coast. This was a "tree change" that had a profound effect on the artist, her subject matter and her sensibility.
Her studio is bathed in natural light and is located beside green fields where cattle graze constantly. Di became fascinated with the architectural and sculptural qualities of these gentle animals and decided to explore their qualities in oil paint. These signature works have become her trademark.
Di has recently turned her attention to the horses in her environs also. To her city-bred artist's eye they appeared to wearing clothes! She became intrigued with these living and breathing patches of colour walking among the fields. After much deliberation, Di sensed a correlation between these horses with their winter blankets and women of different cultures wearing various forms of coverings with pride and dignity. She investigates the concept of beauty and different perceptions of it.
