Kym Barrett

Kym Barrett is a painter and art teacher who lives and works in South-East Queensland. She studied Fine Arts at the Brisbane College of Art in the 70s and currently employs a mixed media technique combining charcoal, acrylics and collage.

Her works on canvas or card loosely link both outer landscape fragments and a personal inner landscape. They aim to suggest metaphors for the universal human adventure and the places we inhabit on the way.

‘The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.’ (Marcel Proust)

Kym’s overarching theme is the interconnectedness of all things represented by the motif of a "golden thread" in each work.
These "threads" set up a dialogue with the discerning viewer, creating a new language and evoking a totally new perspective.

Kym's work is held in private collections throughout Australia, as well as in the Landscape Collection at Bundaberg Regional Gallery, Assisi College, Gold Coast and Immanuel Lutheran College, Buderim.
