Lesley Hawker

Lesley Hawker is based in Goondiwindi in country Queensland. Her work is based on the ups and downs and of a life on the land. Her latest works the Holy Cow Series draw an analogy between creation and the challenges of survival in the harsh and starkly beautiful Australian outback.

Tha familiar ground of Australian locations and its elements and inhabitants provide visual metaphors which inform sometimes whimsical, sometimes angstful allegories such as Holy Cow, Cow Hide and Big Red.

The omnipresent cows are central to the concept of creation and mother earth signifying connections between nature, nurture, creation and survival. Strong colour, gestural mark making and a physical sense of the paint are strong elements used to encourage you to participate either intellectually or sensually.
