Penelope Gilbert-Ng

Well known Brisbane artist and teacher Penelope Gilbert-Ng exhibits an extremely high level of proficiency in a range of media including oils and pastels. Penelope refuses to be pigeonholed and her highly skillful work encompasses landscape, portraiture, still life and genre painting. Like the Old Master painters Penelope can turn her hand to each of these genres with equal focus. She always manages to find an original and offbeat approach to the subject matter that daily life provides.

She is a past President and Fellow of the Royal Queensland Art Society and has been a finalist in the Archibald and Portia Geach Portraiture Prizes. She is a Master Pastelist and currently president 2011 of the Pastel Society of Australia. She has been the subject of articles in Australian Artist magazine ( Dec 2000, March 2006, July 2009). We have work by Penelope permanently on display in the gallery or in the stockroom.

Penelope's current new work includes masterful coloured still life work reminiscent of Cezanne's subject matter and nudes hinting at Degas' settings, but with the original Penelope stamp on them.

These works must be experienced in real life to appreciate their subtleties.
