Sarah Wong
Sarah will be presenting an exhibition of her glasswork in the gallery in May 2008
"Melt" - glasswork including platters. bowls, sculptural pieces and jewelery
Official opening 5-7pm Saturday 3rd May
After initially studying at RMIT in Melbourne and working as a potter and glassworker for 16 years, Sarah is now concentrating on creating her distinctive highly coloured glass pieces.
Sarah has pursued this traditionally difficult medium as her main focus since 2000. She has explored the unpredictability and mercurial nature of this volatile substance. Her results are extraordinary in their colour and design qualities. The perfection of her craftsmanship renders her work highly sought after by collectors.
Glass fusing is a process of firing compatible glass in a kiln at up to 860 degrees. The glass is then cut and layered to form striking patterns and designs. Her large platters resemble luminous optical art paintings.
Sarah is based in Brisbane but has exhibited throughout Australia. She also creates sculptural pieces and garden totems. Jewelery in diacroic glass and magnificently crafted glass beads, mural installations and platters also feature in her glass repertoire.
