Artist Statement

“While the actual “doing” of my art has come in recent years, I believe that my journey as an artist began as a young boy growing up in Townsville, living in an old Queensland house by the sea, playing with sand and mud and generally connecting with the earth.

This eventually turned into a love of gardening and the small details from the natural world. The influence of the Old Dutch still-life works and journeys in France and Spain provided more of a focus. Having completed the camino to Santiago da Compostella in 2003, a life changing experience, the overwhelming urge to work with clay came to me.

With my vegan lifestyle, love of fresh cooking produce and of getting my hands dirty it is only natural that my artwork expresses my obsession with the produce of the earth and the shapes and textures that nature provides.”
