Zygmunt Libucha

A sybaritic smile, a mischievous glance, or a self-contained serenity adorn the faces of Zygmunt Libucha’s latest sculptures.

The words voluptuous and curvaceous have often been applied to Zygmunt’s signature “fat ladies”, but it is the combination of sensuousness with wit and humour that makes his latest output such a delight.

Zygmunt invests much time and energy into his marble or bronze works, which results in a vitality and dynamism in each curved form. Only an artist with the impressive traditional skills of carving and polishing can bring the required patience and expertise to each artwork. His oeuvre is based on the solid foundation of European traditions.

We are proud to welcome master sculptor Zygmunt Libucha to the gallery in 2010. His work ethic impels him to finish his work with a high degree of polish and even his large scale pieces show a committment to fine detail. He works on every piece of stone for as long as possible, finally creating a piece that people will be compelled to touch. Harmony and beauty of design are the overiding factors in his sculptures whether they be figurative or abstract.

The following images are a selection only, and there are always works available in the stockroom to be experienced in the flesh.

The acquisition of a marble or bronze piece by Zygmunt is an investment in the future.

He originally trained as a silversmith in his native Poland and his background in this craft is evident in the fine detail he achieves in the faces and hands of his figurative creations. He migrated to Australia in 1982, working in Sydney before setting up studio in Brisbane’s Red Hill in 1988. He has been a full time sculptor since 1992.
